Have you ever had the opportunity to attend an Oktoberfest? Typically, to experience this legendary Bavarian bash  in full you would need to book a trip to Munich at great personal expense. But since 2000, growing numbers of revellers have been opting for  the best alternative – attending the Oktoberfest at the Swiss Club in Singapore.

This year will be the 19th time that the Oktoberfest has been celebrated at the Swiss Club. For regulars, it is undoubtedly the party of the year. As in Munich, the Swiss Club has its own Theresienwiese at the soccer field – a huge air-conditioned tent spanning 2,800 square metres.

In his role as Oberbürgermeister, the GM of the Club will kick off the festivities on Wednesday 26 September with the frase O’zapft (tapping of the first barrel) to indicate that the bar is open and the party has commenced. This ceremony is repeated every night, so if you cannot be present on Wednesday, there are ample opprotunities to experience this time-honoured ritual on the three subsequent evenings.

Traditional beers like Erdinger, Weiss and Dunkel will be available together with wines, fruit juices and even a non-alcoholic version of Erdinger.  A sumptuous spread of  traditional German dishes such as Pork Knuckles and German Sausages, as well as a signature 260 kilograms Roasted Ox on a rotisserie, will be available buffet-style. Is your mouth watering yet?

From 26 – 29 September, the doors open at 7pm with food and drinks. At 8pm, the party is officially opened with the tapping of the first barrel ceremony, and it continues late into the night. On Sunday 30 September,  you can bring your kids to enjoy the traditional Frühschoppen.

It is advisable to get your tickets online as soon as possible, as they are selling fast. They vary in price from S$65 per person on Wednesday to S$105 per person on Saturday. On Sunday, ticket price is S$30 per person for adult and S$19 per person for children (5 – 12 years old). Tickets include food and your seat at a designated table. Drinks  are not included.
